Beyond the Headlines: My View on Gaza and Global Neglect
Flag of Palestine Nobody can deny the horrible events that are unfolding in Gaza now. It is a massacre. Mr. Netanyahu has been unmerciful and ruthless toward Gaza's civilian population. Under humanitarian law, killing civilians—even in hospitals, schools, and daycare facilities—is never acceptable. Anyone who is exposed to the reality on the ground in Gaza will condemn Netanyahu's actions. But it's fair to say that there are other horrible conflicts going on in the world right now that the global media industry is purposefully ignoring. For instance, the ongoing Sudanese civil war is considered one of the most catastrophic conflicts in the world right now, with 12 million displaced people and half of the country's population in danger of starvation. In addition, we have the Sahel conflicts involving Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, and, of course, the terrible war in Yemen with the relentless involvement of Saudi Arabia since 2015.
